Rather than constantly updating and refining their software like other phone manufacturers, Apple has remained pretty stagnant in their designs and features since the launch of the original iPhone & iOS back in 2007. The new iOS7 however changes everything with an overhaul from the way it looks, the way it functions and to the way Siri sounds.Upgrades rolled out on 18.309.13 and at first the 2D, flat App icons looked dated and didn’t seem to fit in with Apple’s sleek style. This feeling quickly fades as you become used to the new look and actually start to enjoy its simplicity. Everything about the new software makes the phone feel more alive and every transition seems effortless and well thought through.
There are a few stand-out features that make the new software much more intuitive:The Clock – It actually shows the time on the home screen without having to open up the app… simple things! There are now time stamps on messages, again another simple move that had previously been available on non-Apple handsets. The Camera app feels a lot faster now it has lost the fake aperture style lens shutter and has functions for rapid fire shots. Different filters are easily accessible and so are features like panoramic and square photos.Closing apps no longer requires the long-hold of the app to get it into jiggle mode, you can now double tap the home button and swipe the apps upwards and flick them of the screen. Not only is it easier to close the running apps but you can see what each one is doing at a glance. You can swipe up to three apps at the same time to shut them down simultaneously. Finally, a nice touch to the weather app means the weather is reflected in the background image.
There are plenty of guides on how to use the software which look at refining the old features and provide a comprehensive look at the new features and ways in which the software has been made more streamline and simplistic. There has been outrage, celebration, confusion and awe towards the new software, but one thing is sure … Apple has made itself centre of attention once again.2013-10-10 15:50:02 By Charlie Griffin
